Joy Seeker Badge

The last couple weeks have been hard. We’ve been glued to our phones, TVs, and computers taking in the news. We’ve been working from home. We’ve been staying away from our friends. We take comfort in the fact that humans are amazingly resilient. In the midst of struggle and chaos, we can find beauty and even happiness. In order to practice our own resilience and encourage you to engage in resilience, we’ve decided to dedicate our next badge to the feeling of joy and how to find it. We call it the Joy Seeker Badge. Since we are “at home” for the foreseeable future, we will pay special attention to finding joy at home.

Join us over the next two weeks as we learn about the science of happiness and joy, take a class on making our homes more joyful, and create a couple of “joy projects” to bring more joy into our daily lives.

If you are interested in earning the Joy Seeker Badge yourself, follow along and complete the steps with us. You can find our free Joy Seeker Badge Guide here.

Steps to Earn the Joy Seeker Badge

Step 1: Explore the science of joy and happiness. Find out what brings people joy and how to facilitate more joy in your life and your home. Observe your own feelings of joy for a few days. Watch a Youtube video about positive psychology. Check out a book on joy, happiness, or color at the library, or listen to a podcast on the topic.

Step 2: Learn from others. Find a class on positive psychology, joy, or happiness. Bring a list of questions you have about seeking joy. Learn a new skill or practice a hobby that brings you joy. Ask a friend who regularly embraces finding joy to teach you how s/he cultivates a joyful life.

Step 3: Create and take action. Use what you’ve learned in Steps 1 and 2 to identify a couple of “joy projects” you can complete in your home. Paint a wall a cheerful color, create lively art, or add twinkle lights to bring coziness and joy into a space. Take photos of moments of joy like a bed of colorful flowers, floating bubbles, or vibrant street art. Post your joyful pictures on social media and use the hashtags #joyspotting and #joyseeker.

Head over to our Instagram or Facebook to read some happiness trivia and tips for finding joy and be sure to follow our blog posts for more in depth reporting on our experience earning the Joy Seeker Badge.

Once you’ve completed the Joy Seeker Badge, be sure to tell us about it on Instagram with the hashtags #badgesforall and #joyseeker and send us a quick message to share your experience. If you include your address, we’ll send you a little something for completing the badge!
